FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla – (December 11, 2014) – sci-Shot, a new public safety and security mobile app developed by a South Florida company, will celebrate its official launch at the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade on December 13. The app, which serves as a convenient way for participants to anonymously report non-emergency, questionable or suspicious activity, will be monitored by Crime Stoppers.
“It’s a step below calling 911 and a step above doing nothing,” explained Anita Byer, sci-Shot’s founder. “We’re encouraging spectators to download sci-Shot, register as an anonymous user, and confidentially share pictures and video of non-emergency conditions that appear unsafe or threatening and cause concern.”
sci-Shot was designed to improve safety and security at public events and within communities. Anyone who downloads the app is able to share pictures and video while remaining anonymous. Once the user uploads information to the sci-Shot app, the information becomes available to registered security professionals who can then communicate confidentially with the app user. App users can also see investigations underway in the app’s Explore Map, and be notified of all sci-Shot peer activity in their respective communities.
If a sci-Shot picture or video is used in an investigation, the user can be rewarded with a gift card worth up to $50; information used to solve a felony can be rewarded with another $3,000 through Crime Stoppers.
“This is going to be great for both the local law enforcement agencies and the community as a whole,” explained Broward Crime Stoppers Executive Director Ralph Page, who will be monitoring sci-Shot activity during the boat parade. “It provides a wider look because everyone has a cell phone with a camera.”
The app is available through both the App Store and Google Play, and does not require any modifications to the user’s smart phone. Because sci-Shot is committed to privacy, all user data is encrypted employing the highest of standards.
This year, the boat parade’s theme is “Favorite TV Show” and sci-Shot will be represented as “Get Smart” with the tagline: “Get Smart, Stay Safe, Download sci-Shot to Report Unusual Conditions or Activity.”
